Me like chickan – but not too much

Much as I love Nandos, the smell drifting up from the new one on Baker Street is pretty overwhelming. Makes me want to piri-piri, all the time, which would clearly be a bad thing.

“Hey Jeff, I just saw a whale eating a chicken.” — no good thing can come of this.

Is there a law against odour pollution?

  1. No, but there should be a law against Nando’s. Chicken is by far the cheapest meat to produce – a newly-hatched egg becomes a slaughtered chicken in just 42 days – something accumulating protein that fast is hardly going to be the mark of culinary or nutritional quality, is it? Though to be fair to Nando’s, they’re no more of a culprit than the fast food joints, or the supermarkets who produce “chicken salad” sandwiches and the like, which are just as bad…

  2. You’re not wrong. But Nando’s, as you say, is no worse than any of the others – and possibly slightly better than the likes of KFC, as no deep frying in litres of oil is required prior to consumption…

The smell is what’s really offensive. The whole neighbourhood stinks of freshly grilled chicken. And it is tempting…

  3. Actually, I had a quick google and it does seem that various councils, including Wirral and Blackburn will take steps to deal with sources of non-natural malodours (i.e. not animal muck, but possibly Nando’s air pollution).

Westminister’s website has no similar indication, although it seems easy enough to file a complaint. I’m going to give them another couple of weeks to see if it settles down – suspect the over smelliness is due to staff in training – last night as we walked past it was filled with smoke – presumably not what you’d hope for…

Besides, not sure I could live with myself if I ousted Nando’s from my neighbourhood.

  4. Well, me and sk had lunch there today. It was quality. And anyone that thinks otherwise, they can tell me to my face.
