2.0.2

Managed to upgrade to latest version of WordPress without Chris’ help!!! I’m so pleased with me…

Of course, a trained monkey who could follow a 5 step ‘howto’ guide could do it (I was on 2.0.1 before)… But don’t you be taking away from my small victories!

Ready to write?

I think I’m getting there. My Dad (who’s visiting) always used to say to me: “Read a thousand books before you try to write one. Read ten thousand.” Back in the days when I lied to my family to impress them with the quantity of reading that I’d done (I used to be an inveterate suck-up, much to my brother’s annoyance), Dad might have thought I was getting fairly close to this.

Since I was six, however, I have actually done a fair chunk of reading and over the last seven or eight months I’ve consumed about a hundred books in the genre(s) I’d like to write under the guise of ‘research’. Actually, its just been hella fun, and a good post-work diversion, but the essence is: I think I’m nearly ready to put pen to paper.

Not to actually start writing – but to start mapping out characters. Story arcs. Sketching floor plans of buildings that will feature. That sort of thing – think I need to get the detail right. But its all quite exciting.

Think I’m going to go buy an A3 pad and some magic markers today…

Slice of life

I was at the bus stop the other night, on the way back from work when a group of three people, who can only adequately described by the tag ‘youths’ walked up to the stand chatting in a unique brand of lingo. Now I’m somone who’s always enjoyed picking up on a few words and overusing them for comedy values, but these guys were ridiculous.

“Posse!”
“Posse posse posse!”
“Posse posse?”
“Posse posse posse posse.”

And so on.

Did I sound like that much of a fool when I was adding -tastic and -mongous to the end of words all the time? I hope not.

Busy like a monkey on amphetamines

Gosh its been a busy week or two. One of the busiest weeks at work since I started – and have had busy weeks before, I promise – parents imminent arrival, plotting a summer break, looking after Mousecapades for Gem and getting over the remnants of last week’s flu – a two day weekend is just completely inadequate!!

But beginning to feel in the driving seat again, which is good – and will mean I do a little more blogging and Linklogging too – so apologies for temporary radio silence.

Interesting things that I’ve done/seen thoug: reading the Jonathan Stroud books, seeing Good night and good luck, both of which are awesome. Have also watched a lot of Transformers Cybertron, which is a world improved on the recent Japanese dubs, ‘Robots in Disguise’ and ‘Armada’, and has some of those appealing story arcs that keep you hooked…

Anyway, more to come. Good night, and good luck!

Influenza is *so* boring

Have been ill – really ill, not just man-cold hypochondria – for the whole week. Bunged-upness means sleep has been hard-coming, and the doctor’s prescription of Ibuprofen, Paracetomol, and drinking water until I burst has been less than 100% effective thus far, although the worst of the fevers (and mild accompanying hallucinations) have now passed, which can only be a good thing.

Initially, I managed to at least get some reading done – finished Peter Hamilton’s Commonwealth Saga, which was fantastic. But I’ve burned my way through most of the easily accessible Sci-Fi/Fantasy I own and don’t quite have the concentration span for anything more substantial. So I’ve done other things, like set up VPN access from my laptop into work so I can begin to start structuring thoughts again, and flashed my Dell’s system BIOS so that it stops crashing every 10 minutes.

Small victories. But still totally fed up with this illness and itching to go back to work. But at the same time, know that would have probably fallen over had I gone in today… Ah, dilemmas…

Back from the district

Me and the view
Had an awesome weekend in the lake district, and slowly getting used to London again. Amazingly, seem to have gotten ill following all the fresh air, but hopefully nothing too dramatic and plan on being up on feet at work tomorrow.

Many, many photos on Flickr photostream, but a quick one here to set us off…

Note: Bonus photos for registered friends and family.

Armo in the mountainside

Off to the Lake District (stalkers take note). V. exciting! Mountains and everything, and even managed to hit the sales at my local hiking store so feel affordably well-equipped.

Expect some pictures and anecdotes following the weekend, but no posts from the mountainside. Not taking a great deal of tech with me (shock, horror!), planning on one of those naturist return to nature weekends.
